The Certified Protection Professional (CPP), title in the security industry, is widely considered the highest standard. Candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects in security management to be eligible for the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) title. To be eligible for a CPP, applicants must have a minimum three-year experience in security management.

ASIS International also offers three other distinctions: the Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), Associate Protection Professional (APP), and the Physical Security Professional (PSP). PSP, which is for investigators with experience in case management and evidence collection, is for those who are new to security management. PSP is for professionals who have experience in applying and assessing physical security.

They also work on integrated security systems to earn the internationally recognized PSP designation. To be eligible for a PSP certification you must have an undergraduate degree, four years of security experience or a high school certificate, GED, and six years of work experience.

Security professionals must answer over 100 multiple-choice questions in order to pass the Physical Security Professional (PSP), test. The questions are broken down into three categories: physical security, financial security, and human security. The questions will assess fundamental security knowledge as well as how this information can be applied to real-world situations.
